Disclaimer
This directory can tell you which arborists work in your area and roughly what tree work tends to cost. It cannot tell you whether the tree in your yard is safe. That distinction matters, and this page explains exactly where our information stops.
Australian Arborist Directory ("we", "our", "us") publishes free listings for arborists, tree loppers, stump grinders, pruning crews and vegetation management contractors across Australia at auarborist.directory, alongside regional pages and cost guides. Everything on this website is published in good faith and for general information only. By using the site you accept the limits set out below.
This disclaimer sits alongside our Terms of Service, which govern your use of the site as a whole. Where the two overlap, read them together.
1. General Information, Not Arboricultural Advice
We are a publisher and a directory. We are not arborists, we do not employ arborists, and nothing on this website is advice about a specific tree, a specific property or a specific job.
Our guides describe how tree work is generally done in Australia. They cannot account for the species in front of you, its structural condition, the soil it sits in, the storm it just survived, the powerlines above it, the pool footings beside it or the heritage overlay across the whole street. Only a qualified professional who inspects the tree can weigh those things.
We also give no professional, legal, financial, insurance, engineering or planning advice, and none of our content should be treated as a substitute for it.
2. A Listing Is Not a Recommendation
Appearing in this directory means a business operates in tree or vegetation work somewhere in Australia. It means nothing more than that. It is not a badge, not an accreditation and not an opinion from us about the business.
What a listing tells you
- The business presents itself as working in tree services
- The area it says it services
- The contact details it has published
What a listing does not tell you
- That its qualifications or AQF levels are current
- That it carries public liability cover for your job
- That its workmanship, pricing or conduct is sound
We do not test, audit, rank or endorse the businesses we list. The order in which listings appear carries no judgement about quality. Checking a business out before you let it near your tree is your job, and it is not one we can do on your behalf.
3. Nothing Here Replaces an On-Site Inspection
A tree that looks fine from the kitchen window can be hollow at the base. A tree that looks doomed can be perfectly stable. Neither call can be made from a website, and we do not attempt to make it.
If a tree concerns you, engage a qualified arborist to inspect it in person. Where a decision has consequences, such as a council application, an insurance claim, a neighbour dispute or a development approval, you will usually need a written assessment from an appropriately qualified consulting arborist. Our pages are not that assessment and cannot be relied on as one.
If a tree is an immediate danger
A limb hanging over a roof, a trunk leaning after a storm, or any tree in contact with powerlines is an emergency, not a research project. Move people clear, call your electricity distributor for anything touching lines, and contact emergency services on 000 if there is a threat to life or property. Do not wait until you have finished reading a directory.
4. Cost Guides Are Estimates, Never Quotes
Our cost guides are built from published ranges and general market observation. They exist to stop you being blindsided by a number, not to price your job.
Real tree work pricing turns on factors a guide cannot see, including:
- Tree height, species, timber density and canopy spread
- Access for chippers, cranes and elevated work platforms
- Proximity to buildings, fences, pools, septic systems and powerlines
- Whether debris, mulch and the stump are removed or left on site
- Traffic management, permits and travel to remote or regional properties
Any figure on this site is indicative only. It is not an offer, not a quote and not a commitment by any listed business to charge that amount. Get written quotes from several arborists before you commit.
5. Permits, Protected Trees and Council Rules
Most Australian councils regulate tree removal and significant pruning, through vegetation protection orders, tree preservation orders, significant tree registers, heritage overlays and native vegetation legislation. Rules vary between states, between councils and sometimes between streets, and they change without telling us.
We do not track, interpret or advise on those rules, and nothing on this site should be read as permission to remove or prune anything. Confirming what is permitted on your property, and obtaining any approval required, rests with the property owner. Penalties for unlawful removal of a protected tree can be severe, and they are not something we can absorb on your behalf.
6. Listing Details May Be Incomplete or Out of Date
We compile listings from information the business supplies and from publicly available sources. Tree businesses change phone numbers, drop service areas, shut down, get bought out and rebrand, often without a word to any directory.
So while we work to keep the directory current, we do not warrant that any listing is accurate, complete, current or still trading. Verify contact details, service areas, credentials and insurance directly with the business before you engage it.
If a listing for your business is wrong, or you would like it updated, claimed or removed, tell us through the Contact page. We act on those requests promptly and we do not charge for them.
7. We Are Not a Party to Your Job
This is a directory, not a booking platform or a marketplace. When you find an arborist here and pick up the phone, the arrangement that follows is entirely between you and that business.
- We do not take bookings, arrange site visits or schedule crews
- We do not prepare, forward, negotiate or hold quotes
- We do not process payments, deposits or refunds
- We do not supervise the work, inspect it afterwards or mediate disputes
Contracts, warranties, guarantees, insurance claims and any consumer rights you have all sit between you and the tree business, not with us.
8. External Links and Third-Party Content
Listings link out to arborists' own websites and social profiles, and our guides cite external sources such as standards bodies, regulators and councils. Those destinations are not ours.
We do not control, monitor or endorse the content, accuracy, availability, pricing or privacy practices of any external site, and a link is not a recommendation of the business or organisation behind it. Once you leave auarborist.directory you are on someone else's terms, and any dealings there are at your own risk.
9. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, and subject to the consumer guarantees in the Australian Consumer Law that cannot be excluded, we accept no liability for:
- Loss, damage, injury or cost arising from reliance on anything published here
- The performance, pricing, conduct, safety practices or workmanship of any listed business
- Damage to property, trees or infrastructure during work you arranged through a listing
- Errors, omissions or outdated details in a listing, a guide or a cost figure
- Any dispute between you and an arborist, or between you and a neighbour or council
- Interruptions, downtime or loss of access to this website
Where liability cannot lawfully be excluded, it is limited to resupplying the relevant information or the reasonable cost of having it resupplied. Your use of this website is at your own risk.
10. Changes to This Disclaimer
We update this page when the site changes or the law requires it. Revisions are published here with a new date at the top, and the version you are reading is always the current one.
11. Contact
Questions about this disclaimer, or about a listing that needs correcting, can be sent through our Contact page. For the full terms governing your use of the site see our Terms of Service, and for how listings are compiled see How This Site Works.
