2nd Generation Trees

Craig started out as a horticulturist and arborist in local government in 1992. A good stretch of that went into the Tree Unit at Burnside Council, where as Team Leader he worked on some of Adelaide's biggest and oldest remnant trees, and in 2013 he and Kristy started 2nd Generation Trees. We're family owned and operated, based in the Adelaide foothills at Coromandel East, and we work right across Adelaide.

Council trees leave you with a particular kind of knowledge. Craig has a practical understanding of veteran tree management and of South Australia's significant and regulated tree legislation, which is the difference between a tree you can simply book in and one that needs an approval first. Where yours is protected, we handle the application process, write the arborist reports and put the rest of the documentation together. We also know the Mitcham Council native vegetation regulations, so if you're in that council area you'll get a straight answer before you spend anything.

Sometimes removal is the only option left: the tree is dead or diseased, a storm has taken most of it, it was planted somewhere it never should have gone, it's sitting on top of public or private infrastructure, or it's a pest species wearing a pretty face. Whatever the size or the location, we have the experience and the equipment to take out any species safely. The stump after it is a separate decision. Keep it and we can treat it to stop the regrowth; take it out and stump grinding leaves clear ground for planting or building and keeps white ants out of the garden and the house. Fresh or old, by hand or with the grinder, and we'll tell you what underground services are running alongside it before anyone starts.

Good pruning and tree maintenance gives a tree its best chance of standing up to strong winds and holding onto its limbs. Alongside pruning and trimming we handle tree selection and planting when you want to put something back in, and elm leaf beetle treatment for elms under attack. What comes off a job goes back out as mulch and firewood, both delivered, and whatever is left over is recycled or disposed of properly so the footprint stays as small as we can make it.

We contract to public tenders, private estates, corporate grounds and aged care facilities, and a home garden gets the same paperwork behind it: $20 million public liability, RTWSA registration, a SWMS and a risk assessment written for the job, police clearances, and membership of the South Australian Society of Arboriculture. If a storm has been through, our 24 hour emergency callout covers damaged tree assessments, limbs off roofs and the clean up that follows, and if the yard just looks like a storm went through it, general debris removal is on the list too.
