Acorn Tree Services

Rigging and advanced rope techniques are what we are trained hardest in, and they are what lets a large tree come down in sections in a backyard with nowhere to drop anything. Acorn Tree Services is run by two climbing arborists, Jasper Boyd and Tristan Brown, and they are the ones who go up the tree. Both have worked around 20 years in arboriculture and forestry.

We cover Geelong, the Bellarine Peninsula, the Surf Coast, the Golden Plains and the Melbourne metro suburbs. Jasper came out from North Wales with an RFS certificate in arboriculture and City and Guilds forestry qualifications, and has worked on major bushfire recovery projects through Victoria, New South Wales and the ACT, as well as project managing tree maintenance for several Victorian councils and Parks Victoria. Tristan was born and raised in Geelong, holds a Certificate IV in Arboriculture out of Melbourne, and runs the health and safety side and the emergency response work.

We have no interest in performing malpractice tree cutting such as lopping or topping. All our tree pruning and hedging is carried out to Australian Standard 4373:2007, taking in formative pruning, deadwood removal, weight reduction, crown reduction and pruning to let more light down through a canopy. Where a tree is worth keeping but structurally weak, we install cable and bracing using Cobra Cable, which gives supplementary support between two or more stems that might otherwise split apart. We also fit possum guards to established trees to stop them being defoliated.

Tree removal is the technical end of what we do, and stump removal and grinding follows where a tree is going for good, taking the stump out below ground level with a grinder so the spot can be replanted, turfed or built over. We also take on land clearing ahead of landscaping.

Onsite chipping means the green waste comes straight back as mulch, sold to hold moisture in your soil and keep the weeds down, and we deliver seasoned firewood as well.
