Paddy Hanson started ACT Tree Felling in 1975, which makes us Canberra's longest running tree services business. What began as a small family run outfit between Paddy and his son Tim van der Linden has grown into a business that now looks after some of the best known grounds in the capital, with almost 40 years in tree surgery behind the name. Our climbing arborists hold a minimum of Certificate III in Arboriculture (AQF3) and our consulting arborists a minimum Diploma in Arboriculture (AQF5), we are comprehensively insured for public liability and indemnity, and we keep putting our staff through courses and accreditations so the work you get reflects current practice.

The clients who keep us on tell you what we get put on: The Prime Minister's Lodge, the Australian National Botanic Gardens, Territory and Municipal Services, and strata managers including Civium Strata People, Independent Strata Management and A.C.T Strata Management. We are also the preferred tree services supplier for most of Canberra's real estate agencies, among them Peter Blackshaw, Luton Properties, Elders and Ray White.

We would always sooner keep a tree than take it out, and when removal is the right call we can get it down safely and leave the area spotlessly clean. Where a tree stays, our pruning complies with the Australian Standard for pruning of amenity trees (AS 4373) and the ACT Tree Protection Act 2005, and correct cuts reduce wind resistance and the chance of a branch failing. Deadwooding lifts the dead and diseased limbs out of a canopy, cable and bracing gives structural support to a tree that needs holding together, and we finish a removal with stump grinding so the ground is clear.

Every ACT homeowner is required by law to keep their trees clear of the power and house service lines, and this is where we do work most crews cannot. We are EvoEnergy accredited to the highest level to work around live power lines, so most of the time we achieve the clearance with no outage at all, and where an outage is unavoidable we arrange the whole thing with EvoEnergy for you. Our employees are trained and re-assessed every year to hold those qualifications.

Our diploma qualified arborists take on the consulting and reporting side, which matters if you have safety concerns, trees on a development site, tree legislation to satisfy or a pest problem. That covers health and condition consultations, tree risk assessment, tree management plans, tree root damage investigation, and disease identification and treatment. Elm leaf beetle treatment has a service of its own, which anyone with an elm in a Canberra street will understand.

We handle commercial works alongside domestic jobs, and we sell mulch by the order so the material off the day's work goes back onto Canberra gardens.
