Adelaide Hills Hedges

I am Colin Lamb, and Adelaide Hills Hedges is mine. I have been an ISA Certified Arborist since 2007, and before we brought the family out here I spent 17 years with All Round Tree Service Ltd in Vancouver, British Columbia. That adds up to more than twenty years of practical tree care, on the tools rather than behind a desk, and it is still me who turns up at your place. The business runs out of Hahndorf.

Hedge trimming and reductions are what the business is named for. A hedge that has got away from you over a couple of wet seasons can nearly always be brought back, and if it has outgrown the spot it was planted in, I can take height and width off it and bring it back to a line you can live with. Some hedges want a crisp formal face, some are better left a bit looser, and a lot of that depends on what has been planted and how it has been cut in the past. I will say what I think will work before I start, and I clean up the cuttings when I am done.

Alongside the hedges I do tree and shrub pruning. Where you make the cut decides what the tree does next, which is the whole point of having a qualified arborist do it instead of whoever has a ladder. Deadwooding, taking weight off a limb that is over the roof, lifting a canopy that has come down too low over a path, thinning out a shrub that has gone woody in the middle, that is all the same job to me. I also take on small tree removal. I keep that to trees I can bring down safely on my own, so if you have something big and awkward hanging over the house, I will tell you straight that you want an outfit with a crane.

There is also a quarterly garden service if you would rather not have to think about any of it. I come back on a schedule through the year, keep the hedges in shape, stay on top of the pruning, and the place never gets to the stage where it needs rescuing. It suits property managers, and anyone who is not at the address all year round.
