Agile Arbor Tree Services is a locally owned vegetation management contractor based at Kelso, just across the river from Bathurst, with a 20 year track record behind it and an accident free record it is happy to put in writing. The business works on three fronts, homes, commercial properties and government projects, which is a wider spread than most tree outfits in the Central West take on.

Tree removal is the headline service, alongside tree pruning and maintenance, which is where storm damage tends to get headed off before it happens rather than cleaned up afterwards. Jobs run from a single hazardous tree in a back yard through to work that needs the machinery brought in. Stump grinding and removal deals with what is left in the ground, and everything that goes through the chipper comes back out as wood chip and garden mulch, supplied as a service in its own right.

Past the standard domestic work, the plant list opens things up. Slashing handles paddocks, easements and blocks that have got away from their owners, plant hire and clearing covers larger site work, and roadside chemical spraying is there for the councils and utilities that need vegetation kept clear of a road corridor. That last one is not something a two man crew can take on, and it goes some way to explaining the government side of the business.

The compliance paperwork is unusually thorough for a regional contractor. Agile Arbor holds Global Mark certification to ISO 45001 for occupational health and safety, AS/NZS ISO 9001 for quality management and AS/NZS ISO 14001 for environmental management, and is accredited with the Tree Contractors Association. Work is carried out against the NSW legislative framework, the Work Health and Safety Act 2017 and the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 among it, which counts for something when a job involves a protected tree or sits inside a development consent.

The base is at Kelso and crews work out through Bathurst and across the Central West and the mountains: Orange, Blayney, Oberon, Lithgow and the Blue Mountains, with wider NSW covered where a contract calls for it. The office runs Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm, and is closed on weekends.
