Amongst the Trees is our seminar series, and it has brought Professor Francesco Ferrini of the University of Florence and Professor Linda Chalker-Scott of Washington State University to Perth for the first time, each for a two day workshop. Arbor Urban is an arboricultural consultancy working out of Malaga, and putting on those workshops is part of how we keep up with the research we then apply on site. The Ferrini workshop went through tree selection, soil and root systems, urban arboriculture and forestry, biodiversity and ecosystem services, and the part trees play in making a city resilient. The Chalker-Scott workshop covers soil health, mulches, fertiliser applications, tree and plant selection, pruning technique and tree health assessment, with the emphasis on sustainable urban horticulture in a changing climate. Both are open to arborists, horticulturists, urban foresters, planners and anyone working in environmental management.

Urban trees are getting more attention now that people can see what they add to city life, and we guide developers, government and property owners through managing theirs ethically. Our qualified arborists work up a solution for each tree and each situation rather than off a standard template, and what we sell is sound judgement and clear advice, so the decision you make about a tree is one that holds.

For a tree you are unsure about, tree inspections and arboricultural reports set out what is actually going on with it. Tree risk assessments and analysis take that further and put the risk in terms you can act on, and an urban forest audit or tree survey does the same job across a whole site, street or suburb.

Where a development is involved we provide trees and development recommendations and guidance, and handle tree asset retention and protection so the trees worth keeping are still standing at the end of it. On the bigger jobs we can sit on site as project arborist and give specialist advice while the work runs. Tree root investigation, mitigation and barrier installation deals with roots that have gone where nobody wanted them.

On the growing side there are tree planting and watering programs, formative pruning and tree management, and pest and disease treatments with nutrient applications. We do PSHB identification as well. Beyond the single tree, we take on city greening, urban rewilding and biodiversity work.
