About This Business
A block full of trees and a start date that will not move is a situation we know well. Arborcraft Tree Services works on road, rail, utilities and renewables projects across Melbourne and Victoria from our yard at Clayton South, and more than forty major clients now bring us in at that point, among them Lendlease, Laing O'Rourke, Acciona, Symal Infrastructure and Programmed. On Symal's early works package we took a program that had been measured in weeks and delivered it in days.
That capability started in 2011 with one operator and one ute, its seats stripped out to make room for the gear. Sam set out on his own that year holding a view we still work to, that arboriculture is a technical discipline rather than a clearing job, and forty clients later it has held up. Tree removal at this scale means specialised plant that keeps our people out of the aerial hazard wherever the site allows it, environmental compliance managed as part of the package, and real time project tracking you can open and read yourself at any hour of the day.
The part of the operation people tend to remember is what happens to the timber once it is on the ground. Around four million trees come out across Australia every year and the vast majority of that wood is chipped. Ours comes back to Clayton South, where it is assessed, stored and milled to spec, then dried in a solar powered vacuum kiln that brings a twelve month air dry down to under an hour. Offcuts become storage pallets, drying spacers and kindling. What leaves the yard is Grey Box, Red Ironbark, Sugar Gum, Yellow Box, Cypress and Cedar stock, park benches, picnic tables and planter boxes for councils and community groups, and nesting boxes for the possums, parrots, owlet nightjars and gliders that lost a hollow when the tree came out. We call it ArborReuse, and it is why a felled tree on one of our jobs is not automatically a waste stream.
Before anything is cut, someone usually needs to know what is actually there. We map trees in real time, the only system of its kind in the country, and turn that data into impact assessments for new infrastructure, condition reports on the trees around a project boundary, and population management plans that set out what stays and what goes. On live sites our consultants stay involved, monitoring and guiding the works so that plant operating near retained trees does not damage their health. Ongoing tree trimming and maintenance runs the same way across schools, parks and commercial properties, with crews who are used to site inductions, traffic management and working alongside other trades.
When something has already come down, we hold the makesafe contract supporting Programmed across Victorian schools, covering storm clean ups, removals and safety assessments at short notice. Other jobs have taken us to a former golf course at Doncaster, where we built a wildlife corridor into a Mirvac development, and on to high risk tree works for John Holland and to the Victorian Heart Hospital at Monash University. Whether you have a whole site, a program of works or one problem tree, ring us on 03 9913 5195 or send an enquiry through the site. We will come and look at it, and you will have the scope, the method and the price in writing before anyone starts a saw.
