Arboribus

More than 200 projects and better than 10,000 trees saved sit behind Arboribus, with 25 years of arboriculture behind that. We are an arboricultural consultancy working across Perth and out through Western Australia, brought in by land developers, engineers, project managers and designers to plan a project around the trees on the site rather than around them afterwards.

Luke Lumbus is the director. He started in 1999 as an apprentice tree surgeon and spent a decade on the tools, rope climbing, fine pruning, complex removals and aerial assessments, working up through Certificates II, III and IV in Arboriculture and becoming a Certified Arborist with the International Society of Arboriculture. In 2008 he moved across into consultancy, taking a Diploma in Arboriculture (AQF 5) at Challenger TAFE in Western Australia and a Graduate Certificate in Arboriculture (AQF 8) at the University of Melbourne's Burnley campus. He holds ISA Certified Arborist number AU 0014A and is a registered Quantified Tree Risk Assessment user.

Tree protection and preservation means getting trees through development activity so they can keep going in an environment that has changed around them. Before that, a detailed tree survey collects the tree data on a site so the decisions that follow are made on real information. Where a site needs an ongoing framework, we write tree management plans built for that site or development instead of a generic template.

Rootzone investigations are non-destructive, and they give you a proper read on root architecture and where it sits in relation to infrastructure that is already there or still on the drawings. Our visual tree assessments come with detailed reporting on what the tree needs. Everything we produce recognises the Australian Standards.

Tree valuations use established methodologies for tree amenity value, which is what you need for an insurance claim, for holding a contractor to their obligations, or to feed into urban planning. When a tree matter ends up in front of a court, we provide arboricultural expert witness testimony and consultation on legal cases.

There is one more arm to the business. Germinatus is our tree growing service: we collect and nurture seed and raise tree stock for the future, to Australian standards, so the trees that go back in are worth having.
