Arboriculture Victoria

Arboriculture Victoria is a consulting arborist practice serving Melbourne and regional Victoria, led by Tyson McCaig, an AQF Level 5 arborist. The work is advisory rather than tree cutting: the focus is the reports, assessments and management plans that owners, builders, developers and councils rely on when trees and development have to coexist. That makes it a practice for planning applications, subdivisions and tree disputes rather than pruning and removals, and the language throughout is geared to what councils actually want to see.

A large part of the work is arborist reports for planning permits and development, the documents a council needs before it will sign off on building near trees. These set out the trees on and around a site, their health and structure, and their retention value, in the form a planning authority expects. Alongside them, arboricultural impact assessments (AIA) spell out how a proposed development will affect existing trees, what can be kept, and what needs to change in the design or the tree protection zones to keep them, which is often the difference between a permit approved and one sent back for more work.

For trees already on a site, tree health and risk assessments give owners and managers a clear read on the condition of a tree and the level of risk it poses, so decisions about retention, remedial works or removal rest on evidence rather than a hunch. Broader urban tree care and management advice helps owners of larger properties, estates, schools and public land plan for their tree stock over years, budgeting works and replacements rather than reacting only when a tree fails.

On active building projects, project arborist services put a qualified arborist alongside the build to oversee tree protection as work proceeds, including site inspections at the stages that matter. Supporting this, tree protection management plans set out the fencing, root zones, ground protection and site rules that keep retained trees alive through construction. Together these cover a tree from the first planning report through to the final inspection at the end of the build.
