On a development the sequence matters. Pre-development site constraints mapping shows what the trees will actually allow before a footprint is settled, an arboricultural impact assessment sets out what the proposal does to them, and tree protection plans and specifications put the protection measures into terms a builder can follow on site. From there our project arborist services and construction certification keep it honest through the build, and our tree removal permit and planning reports handle the applications where a tree genuinely cannot stay.

Risk is assessed to method, not by eye. We use tree risk assessments under both TRAQ and QTRA, and where a tree is declining our tree health and diagnostic assessments work out what is actually wrong with it. Longer term, a tree management plan gives a body corporate, a school or a council something to work to instead of reacting to each tree as it becomes a problem.

The practical side runs from the same understanding. Tree pruning and crown reduction takes weight out of limbs and lifts canopies clear, hedge and shrub pruning keeps the smaller stuff in order, and soil and root care plus pest and disease management deal with the problems that start below ground or in the leaves. What goes in afterwards is covered by tree planting and establishment, because getting the species and the position right at the start saves the removal conversation in fifteen years. Establishment is the part that gets skipped, and it is the reason so many replacement plantings never make it past their third summer.
