Arbortech Tree Services has been working on Adelaide's trees since 1985, and lopping is the one thing we have never done, because it breaks Australian Standard AS4373-2007, Pruning of Amenity Trees. Everything we cut is cut to that standard, and four decades on we are still owner operated, with Jace the one you speak to.

Tree pruning takes plenty of forms. There is risk management and restorative pruning where a tree has been damaged or has started dropping limbs, formative pruning on young trees so they grow up with sound structure, pruning to improve aesthetics where a tree has simply got out of shape, and pruning for fruit production if you are after the crop rather than the shade. Habitat creation and management is a job in its own right, and we leave hollows and dead wood in place wherever they pose no safety risk, since something is usually living in them.

When a tree genuinely has to go, tree removal and stump removal are done by qualified arborists used to difficult access: the tree over the pool, the one wedged between the house and the fence, the one behind the shed that no machine can get near.

We plant as well as prune and remove. Tree establishment runs from species selection and checking the quality of the stock through root ball and planting hole preparation, planting to documented best practice, then irrigation, protection, mulching and aftercare. For trees already in trouble we do pest and disease management, including diagnosis, possum and rat guard installations and elm leaf beetle treatment, and site remediation with organic mulching, irrigation, invasive species control and soil injection with bio-activators and growth stimulants.

We write tree reports and give written or verbal advice as well. Bad advice from an arborist can leave a well meaning tree owner prosecuted or fined over a tree damaging activity, so it is worth having the position set out properly before anything is cut. We carry twenty million dollars of public liability and ten million of professional indemnity cover, and we are a registered WorkCover employer.
