About This Business

Rope access is how we get to the trees nothing else can reach. In Launceston's Cataract Gorge there is no way to put a machine anywhere near the work, so our climbers go in on ropes and abseil down to it. Arbscape works across Northern Tasmania with three qualified arborists on the tools: Stewart Malone, who holds a Certificate V in Horticulture and Arboriculture, alongside Ryan Joyce and Rakesh Dave, both Certificate III qualified. What we are after is a better standard of tree care for Tasmania's future, and part of that is bringing the next generation of arborists through with the qualifications to match.

Stewart's Certificate V is a reporting qualification, which means we can write the arborist reports and tree audits a council, a builder, a body corporate or an insurer will actually accept. The point of one is to put the information in front of you so the decision about a tree is an informed one rather than a guess.

Tree pruning takes out the dead, diseased and damaged wood and keeps the shape, health and appearance of the tree where it should be, and for heritage trees and high end amenity work that is careful, considered cutting rather than a quick tidy up. Where a tree is worth keeping but has been weakened by structural damage, disease or pests, cabling and bracing with Cobra systems can hold it together and buy it years. We are ESI accredited for work around powerlines, so we can prune there safely and advise you on what is allowed. When a tree has gone past saving, hazardous tree removal on homes and commercial sites is handled off the ropes where access is tight. We also take on tree transplanting for trees that need to move rather than go, pest and disease management with ongoing monitoring, and tree planting, from picking the right species and spot through to the follow up care.

One part of our work you will not find on many arborists' lists is habitat creation. We carve artificial hollows into trunks and limbs so that Northern Tasmania's endemic birds and other native wildlife have somewhere to nest, which puts back something that gets lost every time an old tree comes out of a landscape.

Northern Tasmania is our patch, from Launceston and the Tamar through the surrounding districts, and we take on residential, commercial and council work alike. If you have a tree you are unsure about, ring 0416 064 837 or email [email protected] and we will come and have a proper look at it.
