Caravan parks, wineries and golf courses come to us for tree risk assessments, because a limb dropping over a campsite, a cellar door or a fairway is a different order of problem to one landing in a backyard. Those reports look for structural defects, disease and the environmental things that make a tree fail: deadwood over a high-use area, roots compacted by vehicles, a tree weakened by pests, one left isolated and exposed to wind. Where the inside of a trunk is the question, we use sonic tomography to read what is going on inside the trunk. Insurers and councils often want these inspections on public and commercial land anyway, and the report sets out what to do next and when.

On the removal side we take out hazardous, dead and diseased trees, and clear up after storms. Size is not the issue; access usually is, and we are set up to work close to buildings, over powerlines and in tight spots. Afterwards the stump can be ground below ground level so you can replant or pave over it, dug out by hand if it is small, or excavated altogether when a block is being cleared. Left alone, stumps draw termites and ants and often sprout back.

Tree pruning is where a tree gets saved instead of removed. Crown thinning lets light and air through, crown raising lifts the canopy off a footpath or a driveway, crown reduction brings a tree back to the space it has, and deadwood pruning takes out what is already dead before it comes down on its own. Young trees get formative pruning so they grow with decent structure. If a tree is in decline, we will do the health assessment first and tell you honestly whether it is worth keeping.

Storms and hazard trees get a rapid response, and we do the seasonal work too, getting trees ready before storm season and cleaning up after it. Advice is part of the service as well, on what to plant, what species suits the spot, and how to keep an established tree going for another few decades.
