About This Business

The stretch we work runs from the southern Adelaide suburbs down through Cherry Gardens and Coromandel Valley, out to McLaren Vale and Mt Compass, and on to Goolwa, Victor Harbor and Yankalilla. That country puts a lot of big old trees next to things that matter: cellar doors, campsites, fairways and houses. Aussie Tree Solutions is a family owned business based at Seacombe Heights with more than 40 years in arboriculture behind us, certified arborists on the tools, public liability insurance, and every cut made to Australian Standard AS 4373. Between the metropolitan work and the regional jobs we get across most of South Australia.

Caravan parks, wineries and golf courses come to us for risk assessments, and each of them fails in its own way. In a caravan park it's overhanging limbs and deadwood above cabins, parking and communal areas, and roots compacted by vehicles moving over them. At a winery it's the trees beside tasting rooms and picnic spots, irrigation practices undermining root stability, and vines damaged by a failing tree next to them. On a golf course it's branches over fairways, greens and paths, pests and disease in open ground, and isolated trees taking the full force of wind and lightning. Where the question is what's happening inside a trunk, we use sonic tomography to read it without opening the tree up. Insurance policies and local regulations often require these inspections on public and commercial land in any case, and the report sets out what to do and when.

Taking a tree out in South Australia starts with the paperwork. The Native Vegetation Act 1991 protects native trees and vegetation and a permit is needed in most cases, and a significant tree, meaning one with a trunk circumference of 2 metres or more measured a metre above the ground, can need specific approval in metropolitan Adelaide and certain council areas. Once that's settled we take on hazardous, dead and diseased trees and storm damage cleanup, working close to structures, over powerlines and in spaces where the access matters more than the size of the tree. The stump can then be ground below ground level so you can replant or pave over the top, dug out by hand where it's small, or excavated with machinery when a block is being cleared.

Crown work is what keeps a tree where it is. Our tree pruning takes in crown thinning to reduce weight and let light through to the lower branches, crown raising to clear a footpath, a driveway or a view, crown reduction to bring a canopy back to the space available, deadwood pruning to take out what has already died, and formative pruning so young trees grow with balanced structure. Alongside that we write tree health and stability reports with a recommendation attached, and we respond fast when a storm has left something hanging over a roof. Ask us what to plant and which species suits the spot and you'll get an answer on that too.

Ring Tristan for a price, or put the job through the quick quote form on our site. Residential or commercial, a run of overgrown lilly pillies in a back garden or a full risk assessment across a park, we'll come and look at it and quote before anything gets booked in.
