Blackwood Tree Service

Since 1983 there has been a Blackwood Tree Service crew working the streets around Blackwood, and the business is now second generation. The keys went to our Managing Director, Keir Hietanen, who started here learning the ropes and came up through Head Climber and Team Leader with well over a decade of arborist work behind him. We are a family operation with local staff, fully insured, and we work to Australian Standard AS 4373-2007.

Some trees have to come out, and the difficult ones are what we are set up for: confined space work between a house and a fence, storm risk limbs, bushfire perimeter clearing, and trees that are dead, diseased or pest affected. No tree is too tall and no job too small. We bring specialist access equipment where the access is poor, chip the waste on site with our own machine, and either cart the mulch off or leave it for your garden if you would sooner keep it.

Plenty of trees are better managed than removed. Maintenance pruning, crown thinning and crown reduction, selective pruning, deadwooding, limb inspections and service line clearing all keep a tree sound, and getting the weak or dead limbs out before storm season is the cheap end of this work. Gum trees in particular carry dead limbs that let go without warning, over a shed, a car or the kids. We give bushfire advice too, including help putting a buffer zone between the vegetation and the house.

Stump grinding reduces a stump to a pulp that goes straight back in the hole as a soil base, and stump poisoning stops the regrowth if you would rather leave the stump as a garden feature. Stumps that stay draw termites, ants and fungi, and the epicormic shoots that come off them are poorly attached and prone to failure. On the commercial side we take on council and government work, golf courses, schools, site clearance and block clearing for new builds and subdivisions, and the team can split into two or more crews when the scope calls for it.

Belair, Coromandel Valley, Hawthorndene, Glenalta, Eden Hills, Bellevue Heights and Craigburn Farm are home ground, and we get across to Aberfoyle Park, Chandlers Hill, Flagstaff Hill, Happy Valley, Mitcham, Hawthorn, Springfield and Torrens Park as well. Chances are we are working in your street or passing through it most weeks of the year.
