About This Business

Terry and Jamie Boston are brothers, and we run Boston Tree Care together on more than 15 years each in tree and risk management. Both of us are still on the tools. Jamie is an AQF Level 5 consulting arborist holding a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, an Asia Pacific Tree Climbing Champion title and five Queensland titles, and he sits fifth in the world. Terry ranks inside the world top ten as well. Those titles are won on rope access, rigging and load judgement under a clock, which is the same thing a big tree in a fenced-in backyard asks of us. Our crew is made up of qualified arborists and apprentice arborists, we are fully insured, and we are recommended by the Queensland Arboricultural Association.

Before anything comes down, one of us walks the site and works out what we are actually dealing with: the condition of the tree, how much room there is to drop timber, where the access is, and which gardens, fences and structures need protecting. That assessment decides the method. Where there is space, the tree gets felled in one piece with the cut placed to steer it. Where there is not, it comes apart in sections and each piece gets rigged down on ropes, or a crane goes in for the lifts that cannot be done any other way. The tree cutting itself is the easy part; the judgement sits in the order the cuts are made and where each piece lands. Palm tree removal runs the same way, and palms come with their own problems — a dead frond skirt that weighs more than people expect, seed heads dropping over a pool, and a trunk that gives no warning before it lets go, so we take them down in controlled sections rather than dropping them whole. Tree removal finishes with the chipping done, the debris gone and the stump out, so you are not left with the cleanup.

Taking a tree out is usually a last resort rather than a first move. Tree risk management is where that gets settled: we inspect for weak unions, cracks, deadwood, disease and root problems, then tell you plainly whether the tree can stay and what keeping it would involve. Sometimes the answer is tree bracing, a rod or cable system through a split crotch or a heavy limb that holds a good mature tree together instead of removing it. More often it is tree pruning, clearing out the dead and damaged growth and putting some balance back into the crown, with tree trimming after that to keep it there — lifting the canopy off a roofline, pulling branches back off the powerlines and the neighbour's fence, and getting light back into the yard. This is the work we do across Slacks Creek, Mount Gravatt, Logan and surrounding areas.

Stumps left behind by someone else come out too. Our stump grinding goes below ground level, and we will backfill with soil or mulch depending on what you want that patch of ground to do next, whether it is a courtyard stump or a large multi stem base. At a bigger scale we take on land clearing, turning a block from overgrown to workable ahead of a build or a landscaping project, and we can walk you through the approvals if your site needs them. Schools, businesses and property managers book us for scheduled tree maintenance — a regular round of inspection, pruning and deadwood removal that keeps the trees safe and the paperwork in order — and we work it around whatever else is happening on site.

When a storm goes through and you have a tree down or a limb hanging over the driveway, emergency tree service is a call we turn around quickly. Fallen tree removal is its own job: timber under load, fences and roofs holding weight they were never built for, and pieces that have to be cut in the right order so nothing shifts. We make the site safe first, then clear it properly. For everything else the quote is free and carries no obligation: we come out, look at the tree, and give you the cost broken down before anyone starts. Ring Terry on 0497 933 535 or Jamie on 0410 372 549 and we will come out and take a look.
