Back in 1999 we were a lawn mowing round, started by Malcolm and Sarah Skelton just after their family began. Mal could see that Cairns needed tree felling, pruning and maintenance more than it needed another mower, and by 2001 Bumble Bee Tree Services was a tree business in its own right. He has been up in the canopies around this city for almost two decades since. We are still family owned and operated out of Earlville, our climber is a Certificate III qualified arborist, and we are fully accredited and insured.

The ticket list behind the crew runs past thirty entries, from a Diploma of Forest and Forest Products and complex tree climbing through to removing trees in confined spaces, advanced manual felling, tip truck operations and first aid. The gear is chosen just as carefully: an Isuzu FRR tipper with a 16.5 cubic metre chip bin, a Vermeer BC1500 chipper, a Vermeer S800TX with a three in one bucket and log grapple, SRT climbing kit and aerial rigging equipment. Having the right machine on the truck usually means your clean up is done in a single trip.

Overgrown limbs, storm damage and disease all end up the same way, with weight sitting above your house that has no business being there. Our tree lopping takes those branches off properly, which also lets the tree put its energy back into healthy new growth, and after a cyclone or a strong blow we are out clearing damaged trees and fallen branches. When a tree has to go altogether, our tree removal starts with an assessment of its size and structure, the space available to drop it and what sits nearby, powerlines included, before anyone leaves the ground.

Our land clearing covers everything from a single stump on a private block to a large construction project, and our palm clearing takes on the tropical palms whose structure makes them genuinely awkward to remove safely. Stump grinding and removal finishes the ground off so you can build, plant or turf over it. Living in North Queensland means being ready for storm and cyclone season, so we keep emergency call outs available for dangerous or unstable trees, fallen branches and storm clean up, whether that is before a big blow or after one has been through. We clean up after ourselves on every job and work in a way that does not disturb you or the neighbours. We are on the tools Monday to Friday from seven until five, weekends by appointment, across Cairns and the surrounding suburbs.
