Central Tree Care

Twenty years is long enough to learn a district's trees, and that is how long we have been doing it. Bradley Nuttall runs Central Tree Care as a family business out of Romsey, about 60km north of Melbourne. What began as tree maintenance for local households has grown into work as a preferred supplier to local councils and to the bigger private maintenance contractors, and that is not something you get onto by being cheap: the tickets, the licences and the insurance all have to stand up to someone checking them.

The 17 metre travel tower is what changes the arithmetic on a lot of jobs. It puts the saw up over a roofline without anyone spending the day on ropes, and it takes a tall or awkward tree apart faster and with less risk to what is underneath. Alongside it we run stump grinders, mulchers and a kanga loader, which is small enough to fit through a side gate and still shift what a removal leaves behind. When the tower is not booked on our own work it is available for travel tower hire.

The everyday jobs cover the full range. Where a tree is dead, dangerous or simply too big for the spot it was planted in, we take it out, climbing and dismantling it in sections when there is no room to drop it in one piece. We prune and trim to keep a tree in shape and clear of roofs, sheds and lines, and we cut hedges back when a screen has outgrown its boundary. Afterwards the stump grinding gets the remainder out below the surface so the ground can be lawned, paved or planted again. Every job is insured in both directions: public liability for damage to your property or injury to anyone else, and WorkCover for our own crew, so nothing that happens on your block comes back to you.
