A block that needs clearing rarely has only trees on it. There is usually an old shed with asbestos sheeting on the roof, a heap of rubbish, sometimes the remains of something that burnt down, and for most people that is three different contractors and three different quotes. Chris Rowlands Services handles the lot from Austins Ferry in the northern suburbs of Hobart, which is why a site like that only needs one call to us.

On the tree side we take on large tree felling, felling of dangerous trees, shaping of large trees and site clearing. A towering tree beside a house and a tree that has quietly gone unsafe are different problems with the same answer: get it on the ground in the right order and the right direction, without taking a fence, a shed or a set of wires with it. We turn up with chainsaws, ladders, ropes and trucks, and where a big tree is worth keeping our arborists shape and prune it instead.

Nothing goes to waste once it is down. Untreated timber runs through the portable chipper and comes back as organic mulch you can put straight on the garden beds, and we sell wood off-cuts and firewood by the three and a half tonne truck load, the off-cuts sourced from Tasmanian timber mills and the firewood clean and well seasoned. We are out most days across Hobart and the districts around it, through Glenorchy, Berriedale, Claremont, Moonah, Lindisfarne, Rosny, Warrane, Mornington, Rokeby, Tranmere, Battery Point, Lenah Valley and Fern Tree, out to Brighton, Sorell, Kingborough, the Huon Valley and the Derwent Valley, and Tasmania wide when a clearing job is big enough to warrant the trip.

Away from the trees we take on land, block and site clearing, rubbish removal and burnt house removal, and we work in asbestos as well: asbestos removal and clearance, transport, consultancy and property inspections, all carried out to state and national legislation. Before a renovation or a demolition, an inspection tells you what is genuinely in the building before anyone puts a bar through a wall. And if you would sooner do part of the job yourself, we hire out an Avant articulated loader, compact enough to work in tight spaces indoors and out with a quick attach system for digging, lifting and sweeping, along with trucks and trailers.
