About This Business
Tony Jansen was working golf courses as a greenkeeper through the late 1980s before he ever made a living out of trees. He started City Tree Services in 1997, having settled on Brisbane as the place to bring up his sons, and it was not long before all three of them had joined him in it. Two generations of arborists work here now. Tony still does the consulting and supervises the crews himself, so the person who comes and looks at your tree is the one who has been doing this since 1997.
He is also the Head Trainer for Arboriculture at CTC College Queensland, and he delivers the training to Brisbane City Council's own arborists and their parks and gardens staff. Behind that sit a Diploma of Applied Science in Arboriculture, a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, a Certificate III in Arboriculture and a Certificate III in Civil Construction Plant Operations. We carry WorkCover, $20 million in public liability and $10 million in professional indemnity, and we are listed on the Queensland Arboricultural Association's approved contractors' register.
On the tools we run battery powered elevated work platforms, a tracked remote control stump grinder that will get across a lawn and through a side gate, and cranes from 20 tonnes up to 110 tonnes when a tree has to come out over a roof. Tree removal, tree pruning and tree lopping are what most of that gear exists for, and stump grinding and removal deals with what is left in the ground afterwards. Climbing still matters too, and our lead climber works to world standard technique on the trees a machine cannot reach.
Not all of it happens with a saw. Arborist reports, tree consulting and tree management plans are there for schools, retirement villages, aged care facilities, builders, developers, body corporates, councils and local government, whether you need one tree assessed before a build, a development condition satisfied, or a plan covering every tree on a site rather than a single visit to one of them.
Storm and emergency responses are part of the service as well. When a storm brings limbs down or leaves a tree unsafe, we come out and remove or trim what has been damaged. We work across Brisbane, from one backyard tree through to council contracts, and we are open seven days a week including public holidays. Ring 1300 786 979 or 0411 661 452, or email the office, and tell us what you are looking at.
