Johnny Rickards started Cutting Edge Tree Maintenance in 2015, and we have worked out of Charlestown across Newcastle and the Hunter ever since. Johnny holds an AQF Level 5 arborist qualification, and the crew you will meet on site is John, Justin, Scotty and Brock. Most of the work we quote comes to us on a recommendation from somebody we have already worked for. We look after homeowners, strata managers, businesses and government clients right across the region.

Getting a tree out of a tight backyard is a rigging job before it is a cutting job. We take the tree down in sections, rope every piece to the ground and protect the lawn, fences and paths on the way through, and the truck and chipper follow us in so the mess leaves with us. Gum tree removal and tree lopping sit alongside that, and when the timber is on the ground we bring the grinder back for stump grinding and take the roots out below the surface. If you are getting ready to build or landscape, we can clear the whole block.

Not every tree that worries you needs to come out. When one starts dropping limbs, leaning or dying back, we work out whether the cause is disease, root damage or weight sitting in the wrong place, then treat it or take the load out of the canopy so it can stay where it is. Hazardous tree assessment and tree diagnostics and treatment back that up, and we put our findings in writing for strata managers, businesses and councils, including what a job will need by way of council approval before anyone starts cutting.

Storms and high winds bring the jobs that cannot wait, and we attend trees that have fallen, split, shifted, dropped a major limb or gone unstable near a house, driveway, fence or access point. Everyone on the truck carries chainsaw, working at heights, EWP, traffic control, dogging and first aid tickets, along with powerline safety awareness training. We hold $20 million in public liability cover plus indemnity and fleet insurance, and you are welcome to ask for the certificates before we start.

You will find us working across Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Port Stephens and the Hunter Valley, taking in Charlestown, Merewether, Cardiff, Warners Bay, Belmont, Raymond Terrace, Maitland and Cessnock. We head further up the valley to Muswellbrook, Singleton and Scone as well.
