Before anything comes off a tree in this city, it is worth knowing whether you need a permit for it. A great many native species are protected under Victorian law regardless of their size or where they sit on your property. Trees on the Ballarat Heritage Overlay need approval, and so do trees providing habitat for endangered or protected wildlife, hollow bearing ones in particular. A Vegetation Protection Overlay, a Significant Landscape Overlay or a planning permit over a development site all change what you are allowed to do, and large trees can be caught by thresholds set on trunk diameter or canopy spread. We strongly recommend contacting Ballarat City Council before any removal or major pruning goes ahead, and we will help you work out whether a permit applies before we book anything in.

Tree removal is done safely and systematically on anything from a domestic garden through to a large commercial site, and where the access is tight or the tree is awkwardly placed our climbers take it down in sections instead of dropping it whole. Our tree pruning is cut to AS4373-2007: dead and hazardous limbs out, fire risk brought down, and the structure of the tree improved along the way. Stump grinding comes on its own or bundled with the removal, ground out cleanly with as little disturbance to the lawn around it as the machine allows.
