Seven days a week, from 7am to 7pm, there is someone answering the phone at Darling Downs Tree Services, and outside those hours our 24/7 emergency service takes over. That roster is what being locally owned and operated out of Hodgson Vale looks like day to day. Our crews live on the Downs, so a run into Toowoomba, or the longer drive out to Dalby or Roma, is ordinary work for us rather than a special trip.

Behind the roster sits more than 20 years of practical experience and $20 million in liability cover. The insurance is the part nobody thinks about until a limb comes down across a fence line or a roof, and it is the first thing we would want to know about if we were the ones hiring. Our arborists and tree loppers carry the training and the up to date machinery for whatever is in front of them, from one overgrown wattle in a suburban backyard to a stand of old gums on a rural block.

When a tree has to come out, tree removal deals with the diseased, the storm damaged and the dead before they become a risk to a house, a shed or a fence. Some of those trees stand clear in a paddock and can simply be felled and cleaned up in an afternoon. Others sit hard against a building, where every limb is cut small, roped and lowered by hand so that nothing at all touches your roof, your fence or the garden underneath.

Pruning is both an art and a science, and we treat it as both. Our pruning, shaping and thinning takes weight out of limbs that could fail, opens a canopy that has grown too dense for its own good and encourages the balanced growth that keeps a tree standing well for years to come. Timing and the placement of every cut matter, and both are decided on the tree in front of us rather than to a formula.

Whatever is left in the ground gets dealt with as part of the job. Stump removal lifts the stump and its root plate out of the yard completely, and where size or access rules that out, stump grinding takes the remainder down below the surface, so the ground comes back level and ready to be turfed, replanted or built over.
