About This Business
In a Perth winter it is the trees nearest the power lines that turn one household's problem into the whole street's. Our Western Power qualified cutters clear vegetation off both low and high voltage lines, which is not work an ordinary crew can legally touch. Dickies Tree Service holds contracts for it as a government, shire and business contractor, working out of Malaga with more than 40 years behind the name.
Gary Dickie grew up in the bush and spent his childhood climbing trees before he made a living out of them. With his wife Judy he built the business on hard work and straight communication into one of Western Australia's oldest and most established tree surgeon companies, and their son Cameron is a key part of the team today. It has grown past 40 people and is still family owned and operated, and a good number of our long term employees learned the trade directly from Gary.
What happens before a truck leaves the yard is the part most people never see. Our quoting team works out the difficulties in a job first and assigns the exact personnel and equipment it needs, which is what keeps the awkward ones safe; seven field teams are available around the clock; and among them we have qualified arborists, climbers, HR truck drivers, crane and HIAB operators, and traffic management when a job sits on a road. Every vehicle carries GPS Fleetmatic tracking that records the exact duration of each task, so what you are invoiced is what actually happened on site.
The day to day is tree removals and palm tree removal on tight suburban blocks, stump grinding so you are not left mowing around something, and tree pruning that thins and shapes a tree to keep it sound as it grows. Everything that comes down goes through the chipper, and free loads of mulch with free delivery are available at the moment. We also write risk assessment reports where a tree's condition has to be documented properly, look after strata properties and tender for larger contracts. Insurance work is a speciality, so the paperwork never holds the job up. The Department of Parks and Wildlife, the Water Corporation, UWA, Murdoch and Curtin, Lake Karrinyup and Cottesloe golf courses, schools including Hale, Aquinas and Trinity, and the Cities of Stirling and Vincent are among the organisations on our books.
Working north, south and east of the river covers the whole metropolitan area from Yanchep down to Rockingham: Joondalup, Wanneroo, Duncraig, Karrinyup, Scarborough, Trigg, Sorrento and Greenwood in the north, Subiaco, Nedlands, Dalkeith, Claremont, Cottesloe, Mosman Park, Floreat and Wembley through the west, Morley, Dianella, Bayswater, Inglewood, Maylands and Ballajura across the north east, Kalamunda and Forrestfield in the hills, and Applecross and Como south of the river.
