About This Business
A job can start with a very long drive. The team regularly travels to remote locations as far as Kalumburu at the northern tip of Western Australia, and out to communities hundreds of kilometres south along the Duncan and Tanami Roads. We run Driftwood Tree Services as a locally owned and operated business out of Kununurra, working for private and commercial clients through the surrounding Kimberley region and into the remote communities on the western edge of the Northern Territory. Getting to some of those places is a decent part of the work on its own, so tell us where you are when you ring and the travel goes into the quote up front.
Luke runs the business, with 10 years of experience as an arborist and five of them providing arboriculture services to the Kimberley and Big Rivers regions, and the crew with him are industry certified arborists. What we are here for is the health, beauty and environmental benefit of trees: nurturing and preserving them through proper care and maintenance, for long term sustainability and better community landscapes, rather than simply cutting trees down. Balancing the function and the amenity of the vegetation on a site, using best practices in arboriculture, is how we see the job.
That starts with tree pruning to keep a tree healthy, and where one genuinely has to go, tree removal is carried out so that everything standing around it is protected. Afterwards, stump grinding takes the stump out completely, which is what stops regrowth coming back up through it. Our forestry mulching clears vegetation across a whole block and leaves the mulched material down on the ground, cutting wildfire risk and improving soil health at the same time. We put in fire break clearance to slow a fire and keep it from spreading across a property, and power line clearance keeps vegetation back off the lines, so the power stays on and the fire hazard underneath comes down.
When the weather has been through, our emergency storm damage clearing is the fast response to fallen trees and storm damage, opening access back up and making a site safe. In this part of the country that can mean a road or a station track long before it means somebody's driveway. We sell mulch, and there is plant and machinery hire as well if what you need is the gear and not the crew. Ring Luke for a free consultation, tell us where the job is and what is on it, and we will work out what it takes to get there.
