Earth To Sky Tree Care

Jamie Alexander came to arboriculture the long way round, through horticulture and then conservation and land management, and that order still shapes how Earth To Sky Tree Care works. We take a holistic view of a tree, looking for the things affecting its health that are not obvious from the ground, and we work alongside nature and in its natural processes rather than against them. It is tree work with the local fauna counted in.

Every bit of tree pruning we do is performed to AS 4373-2007, Pruning of Amenity Trees. On the structural and maintenance side that means formative pruning on young trees, selective pruning, dead wood removal, crown lifting and crown thinning. For clearance and the more specialised jobs there is reduction pruning and building clearance, pollarding, storm damage and remedial pruning, hedging and topiary, and palm clean up and fruit removal for the palms that start dropping fronds and seed over everything below them.

The part of the business we are proudest of is habitat creation. A dying or dead tree gets stagged to make it safe, and then we carve hollows into the standing stem with a chainsaw, closing them in with upcycled timber offcuts. A carved hollow is better insulated than a plywood nest box, and poor insulation is exactly why so many boxes end up undesirable to the wildlife they were put up for. Before any of it is cut we gather the right information on the living requirements of the local species being targeted, so the hollow suits the animal that is meant to use it.

That work does not stop at the hollow. We retain dead trees as habitat features where they can safely stay, we use fracture pruning to set off the mycological and wildlife activity that follows a natural limb failure, and we build ground and aquatic habitat for frogs, fish and turtles. Wildlife monitoring is available afterwards to see what has moved in, and our tree planting is selective, chosen to support and attract wildlife.

Where a tree genuinely cannot stay, our tree removal is safe and controlled, and it is the option we look at last. We work for private and commercial clients across the Mid North Coast, taking in Coffs Harbour, Woolgoolga, Sawtell, Emerald Beach, Moonee Beach, Bonville, Bellingen, Nana Glen, Glenreagh, Nymboida, Wooli, Ulmarra and Yamba.
