There are jobs we turn down. Leaves dropping on a lawn or a driveway is not a reason to take a tree out, and if that is why you are ringing, our honest advice is to buy a leaf blower. Sam Hardingham runs Everydayarbor out of Newcastle, and after a long career watching good trees and important habitat disappear, he set this business up to do the opposite: keep trees standing in the landscape for longer and keep the urban forest working.

A problem limb can often be dealt with without the whole tree coming out. Our pruning and hazard mitigation work follows the latest Minimum Industry Standard for Tree Pruning, MIS308, so the cuts are placed to bring the real risk down, improve the structure and extend the safe life the tree has left, rather than simply tidying up its outline. We climb and rig, which means we can reach the limbs that actually matter without dragging a machine across your lawn.

When the call genuinely has to be made, we run a VALID Tree Risk-Benefit Assessment. It is a recognised, evidence based method that weighs what a tree really threatens against what it gives you in shade, habitat, screening and value, and it hands you a defensible answer you can put in front of a council, a neighbour or an insurer. Those assessments start from $75.

Where a tree does have to come out, we do the tree removal ourselves and we are fully insured for it. What happens next matters just as much to us. Habitat creation and installation, from nest boxes to retained habitat features, is done to the Minimum Industry Standard for Environmental Arboriculture, MIS312, so the hollows and perches a mature tree was providing are not simply written off. Where you want the canopy replaced we handle the tree planting as well, putting the right species back in the right spot for whoever is living here in forty years.

You will find us working across Newcastle and out into the Hunter Valley, taking in Cardiff, Whitebridge and Garden Suburb. One of the trees we have managed is a Liquidambar at Whitebridge that the residents planted forty five years ago. Their children and grandchildren grew up climbing it, and the family still gathers under it for photographs every Mother's Day.
