About This Business

A Hollowhog carving tool lets us cut a habitat hollow into a living tree without compromising its health or its strength, and around 300 Australian species use hollows for shelter, nesting or a home. Living trees are where we put them wherever we can, because the temperature inside stays steadier and the entrance can be hidden under foliage. Habitat creation is one of the more unusual things Gold Leaf Tree Services does across Canberra and Queanbeyan from our office in Queanbeyan West, and it regularly changes the outcome for a tree that was otherwise headed for removal. Where hollows already exist we assess them, and strategic pruning can speed up the ones a tree is forming on its own.

Thirteen years in, we have worked on more than 180 project sites, carried out over 10,000 tree assessments and planted more than 700 trees. Every consultant here holds a Diploma in Arboriculture with additional training in risk assessments and project management, and our AQF Level 8 and AQF Level 5 arborists put their names to documentation that has to stand up against local regulation, including the Urban Forest Act 2023 where a protected tree is involved. Knowing which rules apply to your project from the very beginning saves time, money and mental gymnastics, particularly when you are working to a tight deadline.

Tree assessments and reports are the backbone of that work. A tree impact assessment identifies the protected trees and gathers the data on size, species and health that an application turns on, while a risk assessment weighs how likely a failure is and what it would land on. Tree audits and asset management map and collect data across every tree you hold, so a large site can be looked at as a whole, and our protection and certification work covers the documentation, the approvals, and the protection measures themselves once they go in on the ground. Tree management plans then set out what happens to those trees over the years that follow.

The hands on side of the business runs off the same understanding. Pruning and maintenance is carried out with the biological function of the tree in mind, tree removal and stump grinding is there for the trees that genuinely cannot stay, and our work on tree health, planting and soil covers both ends of a tree's life: reading the complex signs and symptoms of one in distress, and choosing species that will actually thrive in the position and the soil you have.

The earlier you bring us in, the more options are still on the table, which is why we would rather join your team from day one than be handed a problem at the end of it. Tell us what you are dealing with, whether that is a development site, one old eucalypt or a whole portfolio of street trees, and a consultant will come out, study the microclimate it is sitting in and give you recommendations you can act on. Ring 0450 631 560 or email [email protected] and we will make a time.
