Got Me Stumped Tree Services

From Lara, just north of Geelong, we get to trees across Geelong, the Surf Coast, Golden Plains, Colac Otway and Wyndham. That is a spread of city backyards, coastal blocks and farmland, and the people who ring us reflect it: homeowners, commercial businesses, agricultural farms and government agencies. A single tree hard against a house and a line of trees along a paddock fence are different problems, and we would sooner be set up for both than good at only one.

David Lamont, our owner and operations manager, came into arboriculture through a local company that combined traffic control with tree services. He was encouraged to get certified, started taking weekend jobs while he worked towards going out on his own, and by 2011 Got Me Stumped Tree Services had sprouted. Twenty years of industry experience sits underneath it now. When David is not steering the business he is at home with his wife Stacey and their three kids, out fishing, or having a go at the occasional game of golf.

On the tools we take on tree removal, from the dead and dangerous ones through to the trees that have simply outgrown where somebody planted them, and tree pruning for the trees worth keeping. Once the tree is down we grind the stump out below the surface so the ground is clear to mow, replant or build on, and stump grinding is in our name for a reason. At the tidier end we do hedge trimming to hold hedges and screens even and tree maintenance to keep established trees in order year to year, while tree mulching puts the offcuts back into your garden beds and site clearance gets a whole block down ahead of building or landscaping.

Two of the things we do are worth knowing about before you decide a tree has to come out at all. With cable bracing we install supporting cables or bracing up in the canopy to hold a stem that has weakened or started to split, which can save a tree that would otherwise be written off. We also fit possum tree guards, protective barriers around the trunk that stop possums getting access and ringbarking the tree. Both are jobs for someone who can get up into the tree and judge what it can carry, and both are worth a conversation while the tree is still standing.

We work in crews of two to four, with late model, meticulously maintained machinery, which is what lets a big job get finished in a day. One customer had us in for a tree clean up and put it plainly: we did in a day what would have taken them six months, with minimal damage to the other trees, shrubs and plants. That second part counts as much as the speed, because the plants you are keeping are usually standing right where we need to work.
