Greenline Arbor and Grounds

Dean Whitton is our senior consulting arborist and the person who runs Greenline Arbor and Grounds, a family owned practice based in the Blue Mountains and working across Sydney and the mountains. Dean holds AQF Level 3 in Arboriculture as a practising arborist and AQF Level 5 on top of it, he is a registered QTRA user, and he has more than ten years in the industry. Our roots are in hands on practising arboriculture, which is why the advice in our reports stays grounded in what can actually be done on the site.

If a council, a certifier or a client has asked for something in writing, that is our end of the job. We prepare Tree Risk Assessments, Arboricultural Impact Assessment reports for development applications, and Tree Protection Management Plans setting out what has to happen on site while a build goes ahead. Every report comes off an inspection we have done ourselves, and we turn them around quickly, because a consent timeline rarely waits on anybody.

Some trees cannot be judged properly from the ground, or from the outside. Root investigation and mapping shows where the roots have actually gone before a trench or a footing gets set. We use aerial assessments to get up into the canopy for the structural detail, and tree surveys to cover a whole site at once. Starch testing measures how much vigour a tree has left in reserve, which is a straighter answer than reading the leaves, and soil analysis is for when the trouble is in the ground and not the crown.

On a development we can stay involved as your project arborist, giving arboricultural advice through the design stage, supervising work around retained trees and certifying that what was approved is what actually happened. Habitat creation often comes out of the same consent conditions, and we install and create habitat hollows to support local fauna. For the trees you are keeping there is plant health care: detailed reporting on health and condition, with pest and disease management plans to go with it.

The way it runs is straightforward. A conversation about what has been asked of you, a site inspection, our assessment and advice against the standards, then the report, and we stay available afterwards if the consent authority comes back with questions. We work for local authorities, developers, schools, small businesses, corporate clients and homeowners, and somebody worried about one tree over a bedroom gets the same inspection as a builder with a whole site to clear, just a shorter report at the end of it.
