Our founder Sam Small refined his climbing and pruning in the major parks of Sydney's CBD, Hyde Park among them, working alongside arboricultural teams across Greater Sydney and the Blue Mountains. He brought that grounding home to Wentworth Falls, and Harmony Tree Care has been built on it ever since. Sam is a qualified arborist with more than six years of experience, and we carry $20 million in public liability cover. Sustainable, safe and responsible tree management is the standard we hold ourselves to, and a real understanding of the local environment is what we bring to every block we work on.

When a tree has died, turned hazardous or started to push at a structure, we dismantle and take it out with specialised equipment so the ground, the garden and the buildings around it wear as little of the job as possible. Where the tree is staying, we work through the dead, diseased and overgrown wood so it grows away well and drops less on you, and on established trees hanging over houses, driveways and outdoor living areas we take the deadwood out before it comes down on its own. Once the tree is gone we grind the stump out below ground level, which clears the trip hazard, stops the regrowth and gives you the space back for planting or paving.

Hedges are ongoing work for us. We recommend hedging an informal screen at least twice a year and a formal one three or four times, and that rhythm is what keeps it dense and even the whole way down rather than thin and leggy at the base. On mature trees carrying a weak union or a split limb, we fit cables and rods to stabilise the tree, reduce the risk of failure and add years to its life. We use that same bracing work preventatively on the trees you would least like to lose.

Plenty of what we do never needs a saw at all. If you want to know what you are actually dealing with, we will inspect the tree in detail, assess its condition, structural integrity and hazards, and give you a report and a care plan you can act on. Where pests or disease have taken hold, we identify what is on the tree and build an integrated management plan around it, which might take in pruning, soil improvement or targeted treatments to bring the vitality back. We also carve habitat hollows for nesting and sheltering native wildlife, and where a tree is not sound enough to be carved we make hardwood hollows and install them instead, which supports local biodiversity and gives a dead tree a second life on the block.
