Before anything gets cut we look at the tree and tell you what it actually needs. Sometimes that is tree removal, because the trunk has been damaged, the wood has died or started to decay, insects have got into it, the thing has outgrown the block, or it has ended up too close to the house for comfort. Sometimes it is a good deal less than that: a tree pruning job running from crown thinning and crown reduction through to deadwooding and shaping, or tree lopping to bring the size and shape of a tree back under control. Lopping done carefully steers the growth without stripping out the trunk wood that keeps the tree alive, and that is the version you get from us.

One job on our list that plenty of people have never heard of is possum tree protection. Possums strip bark, and the damage comes on slowly enough that most owners only notice once a tree is well down the track. We fit possum bands, sometimes called protection shields, around the trunk so the animals cannot get a grip and climb, and nothing has to be trapped or poisoned for it to work. Banding one tree on its own tends to move the problem next door, so we do the surrounding trees and the branches that overhang them at the same time and close the route off properly.

Once a tree is down there is still a stump sitting in the lawn, and stump grinding and tree stump removal get it out of the ground so you can plant, pave or mow straight over the top. We take the smaller trees, shrubs and offcuts from the day away as mulching, and our hedging work leaves a screen dense enough to actually give you some privacy. If a limb drops at two in the morning or a storm splits a tree across the driveway, our 24 hour emergency service is exactly that, Monday to Sunday.
