Across Brisbane, Ipswich and the surrounding areas, Heartwood Tree Solutions is Shane Clark, his family, and a set of tickets he has been adding to since 2008. That was the year he finished his AQF3 in Arboriculture. The Diploma of Horticulture in Arboriculture followed in 2012, and he now holds a Tier 2, Level 5 consulting arborist licence on the Australian arborist industry register. Shane learned the trade working alongside well respected arborists, and he is still the one who turns up to look at your job.

Certificates are only worth something if the cover behind them is real. We are a qualified member of the Queensland Arboricultural Association and a member of Arboriculture Australia, we hold combined general and products liability insurance to $20 million, and we are recognised by the Queensland Master Builders Association. Tree removals are where all of that gets tested: a gum leaning over a roof, a tree undermined by a wet season, or one that is simply in the wrong place for what you want to do with the block. We run an elevated work platform for tree pruning, which is often the safer way to reach the work and easier on the tree than climbing it, and tree lopping covers the rest. Stump grinding deals with what is left in the ground once a tree is down, so you can turf it, pave it or plant something else there.

Arbor reports, consultation and advice is the consulting side of the business, for when a council wants a tree assessed before it will approve anything, a buyer wants to know what they are taking on with a block, or you need it in writing that a tree is sound. Come storm damage season, the useful work happens beforehand: have the trees inspected, get the dead wood and the likely failure points dealt with early, and there is a good deal less to go wrong when the weather turns up.
