About This Business
My first day on the tools was five palm trees, a pole saw, a chainsaw and a ute, on my own. It did not take long to work out I would need a hand. Hi Palms has grown a fair way since then: there are three of us on the crew now, with trailers, a chipper, a cherry picker and a stump grinder behind us.
I got into this doing weekend work with family while I held down a 9 to 5, and when the business I was working for closed I went and got the paperwork to match the experience, a Certificate III in Arboriculture and Horticulture, and a truck licence to go with it. That was more than a decade ago. We are locally owned, based at Andrews Farm in Adelaide's north, and carry full liability insurance. I am Craig Hodge, and mine is the number you ring.
Palms are the specialty. We take out yucca, coco, cotton and the rest, whether it is a dying palm, one leaning where it should not be, or one you have simply had enough of. Some come down by climbing, some off the cherry picker, and plenty are in spots you would not get a truck near, and that is what the climbing gear and the cherry picker are there for. Nothing gets dropped through a fence, a shed roof or the power line on the way down.
Palms that stay get pruned. Taking off the dead and diseased fronds keeps insects and rodents out of the crown, keeps fungal disease down, and stops dead fronds coming down in a high wind or a storm. We do regular palm tree pruning for people who would rather have it looked at once a year than deal with the mess later.
It is not only palms. We handle tree removal at any size, from a dead one in the corner to something over the house, and tree pruning cut to suit the tree in front of us. Stump grinding takes the leftovers down below surface level without tearing up the lawn around them, tight access or not, and we clear the debris and tidy up before we go.
We work Adelaide's northern suburbs, including Golden Grove, Hope Valley and Salisbury, and get out through the rest of Adelaide and the Barossa. Quotes are free and there is no obligation. There are discounts for pensioners and for customers who have had us back. Give me a call or fill in the form on the site and I will get straight back to you.
