Australian Standard AS 4373, Pruning of Amenity Trees, governs every cut our arborists make, and every job is done in line with the local council regulations that apply to your property. At Hobart Arbor Co we would sooner keep your tree than take it out, and where it can go on living happily in the spot it is in, that is the advice you will get from us.

Tom owns and runs the business, and has spent more than 10 years climbing treetops above Hobart and beyond. He trained and worked with mainland arboriculture companies before coming home to Tasmania, and started Hobart Arbor Co in 2018 as a small business of his own. Our arborists are qualified and experienced, and between us we have worked on hundreds of trees across the south.

Where a tree can be saved, the pruning runs to deadwood removal, crown lifting and thinning, height and weight reduction, targeted and formative work, and fruit tree pruning. Where it cannot be saved, tree removal is carried out by climbing and dismantling, using aerial rigging, elevated work platforms or a crane when the block demands it, with stump grinding to finish the job off. Chipping and mulching, wood chip delivery and, for the callers who need them, drone recovery and feline rescue make up the rest. More than fifty suburbs across southern Tasmania sit on our service list, among them Glenorchy, Sandy Bay, Kingston, Bellerive, Howrah, Blackmans Bay, Taroona, Sorell, Brighton, New Town, Lindisfarne and the Huon Valley.

None of the wood we take down goes to landfill. We recycle every tree through the community: local landscapers, woodcarvers and hobby timber millers turn the timber into carvings, sculptures and structural bases that end up in school playgrounds, gardens and community parks, and unique pieces get salvaged and donated for woodturning and artwork. Our Chips 4 Trees program rehomes the wood chips our clients do not want, and when it is available we run a free firewood collection for people in need. We reach for battery powered chainsaws and hand tools where the job allows, and we encourage customers to leave a tree, or part of one, standing as habitat.

As an Associate Member of Landcare Tasmania we sponsor and take part in community projects around the state, from National Tree Day plantings to nesting box installations, and our A Tree 4 A Tree program puts new trees back in the ground.
