About This Business

Every one of us, from our tradespeople through to our apprentices, trained at the Kurri Kurri TAFE campus. That extensive formal and on the job training is the foundation of everything Hunter River Trees does, and we are qualified Certificate 5 arborists, which means our tree surgeons can provide full tree risk assessments. Ours is a family owned and operated business at Lochinvar, providing a superior level of arborist services to the middle to lower Hunter, including Maitland, Newcastle and the surrounding areas.

Our team leader Steve Watson is a senior consulting arborist with more than 25 years of arboriculture work in the Hunter behind him, fully registered, holding a Certificate 5 in Arboriculture and an ISA Tree Risk Assessment qualification, and approved by Arboriculture Australia. We are members of Arboriculture Australia and the International Society of Arboriculture, we work to Australian Standard 4373-2007 for the pruning of amenity trees, and we carry full workers compensation and public liability insurance up to twenty million dollars. All proof of documentation can be shown to you before a job starts, and our WHS system runs the full Work Cover Subby Pack, with Safe Work Method Statements, toolbox talks and plant and equipment checklists.

Felling a tree looks as simple as sawing through the trunk right up until you account for nearby structures and gardens, a tight location, the safety of people close by and being courteous of your neighbours. We take a tree out when it is dead, when it is very diseased and therefore dangerous, when subsidence has left it unstable, when it has grown too big to safely remain where it stands, or when a development cannot go ahead around it. We do not always have to remove one, though: pruning, lopping, crowning or coppicing can control disease and give a tree the chance to thrive, and encroaching roots can often be dug up without getting rid of the whole tree. We cannot promise to save every tree, but where you want it saved we will tell you honestly whether there is an alternative.

Our stump removal and grinding takes away the tripping hazard and the termite target, and we will walk you through which option suits: grinding reduces the stump to ground height, is cheaper and faster and leaves no crater, while removal grubs out the stump and the roots and usually leaves a hole where the tree was. Tree pruning we do with precision and minimal disruption to your surrounding gardens. We also take on bushfire hazard reduction, tree health work, powerline easements and emergency clean ups, and if you want the branches kept for your log burner or the compost, tell us and we will leave them.

As Level 5 arborists we produce tree reports, tree surveys and risk assessments on all types of land and property, and our consulting work trades as Arborcert. Our clients run from a long list of residential property owners through to council and government contractors and commercial site operators, right across the greater lower to mid Hunter. Every assessment is obligation free and comes with a complimentary quote and a solution to your problem, and you get the advice without the sales push. Ring us on 02 4933 2555 and we will come out and look at it.
