A large pine we were called to had a union starting to come apart, so we installed a Dyneema sling in it to stop the separation. The overall health of that tree was good, so the work was preventative, taken to improve its long-term prospects instead of waiting for the union to let go. Dyneema is a versatile material and it lets an arborist use a good many different methods to hold a tree together. iClimb Tree Solutions works out of Scottsdale in Tasmania's north east.

Trees give subtle but identifiable signs of future failure, and risk reduction starts with reading them early. The Avant 745 loader is the newest bit of kit here. It's bright green, it articulates to steer, and it will get into a yard and do the heavy lifting with very minimal impact on ground surfaces. It has taken most of the manual lifting out of a job that used to be all back and shoulders, and it's the reason even the largest trees on a suburban block can be finished off without leaving ruts across your lawn.

Tree pruning and deadwood removal open a canopy back up, take the weight off limbs that have run out further than they can carry, and clear branches back off a roof or a driveway. Formative pruning shapes a young tree while that's still easy to do. Wood chipping is an efficient way to minimise the volume of almost any tree, and it does your garden a favour too, because the material starts decomposing quickly and helps hold moisture around the beds.
