Independent Arboricultural Services

A sonic tomograph can read the inside of a trunk without cutting into it. That is the sort of tool Independent Arboricultural Services was built around when Roger Rankine started the practice in 2007, and it is still the difference between an opinion about a tree and a measurement of one. We are a consulting arboricultural firm at Eagle Farm, our arborists hold AQF Level 5, Level 8 and Level 9 qualifications, and between us we bring more than sixty years of experience to a brief. Prompt and practical is how we would describe the service, and our independence is the entire point of it, because we do not sell removals or treatments and our advice is not steered by anything we would rather be paid for.

Most briefs begin with an arborist report, and that might be an arboricultural impact assessment, a tree retention plan or a vegetation management plan prepared for development, construction or a planning process. Our tree risk assessment and reporting is delivered with GIS and CAD mapping so a council or a court can see exactly which tree is being discussed, and our non-invasive decay detection uses PiCUS and Rinntech technology to establish what is actually happening inside a trunk before anyone decides its future.

The tree health side of the practice runs deeper than diagnosis. Tailored plant health care programs treat the causes rather than the symptoms, soil decompaction with VOGT GeoTec equipment gets air and water back into a compacted root zone, and stem injection using the Bite, Rite and Pite systems delivers treatment directly into the tree. We also brew and supply compost tea to rebuild soil biology, and install remote soil moisture and tilt sensors so a significant tree can be monitored continuously rather than inspected occasionally.

For the trees that matter most, AS2303 tree inspections, tree sourcing and tree transplanting cover assessment, relocation and establishment, and tree props can keep a heritage specimen standing that would otherwise be written off. Where a figure is needed for a dispute, an insurance matter or a development, formal tree valuation is prepared using the recognised MIS506 method.

We work with construction and development companies, grounds maintenance providers, councils and homeowners, and as project arborists we stay on site through a build to make sure the trees marked for retention are still standing at the end of it.
