Twenty-five staff on the ground, two in the office, and 500 cubic metres of mulch coming out the other end every week. Independent Tree Services started as Trent Hughes with a truck, a set of tools and a cherry picker, and we have been trimming Brisbane's trees since 2002. We take on tree removal, pruning and maintenance, stump grinding, forest mulching, root barrier installation and tree planting, and when a tree has come down across a driveway or a roof overnight there is emergency work and storm repair on 24/7 call. Our crew hold arboriculture certification along with tree climbing, chainsaw, EWP, traffic control, fire ant, Blue Card and Pink Card tickets, the last of those being what lets us work trackside for Queensland Rail. We are members of the Queensland Arboriculture Association and work to OHS Australian Standards. Of all the numbers on our books, the one we would rather be judged on is the zero: no health and safety incidents on site.

We share a workplace with wildlife more often than not, which is why we keep wildlife spotters on site who know their way around bird nest and habitat relocation. Everything that comes off a job goes through the chipper and gets reused as mulch somewhere else. What you are guaranteed is a team who take only trees and leave only footprints.

Our base is at Narangba, north of Brisbane, and the work runs a good way past the city limits. We hold contracts across Moreton Bay, Logan, Redland, Somerset and Gympie, along with work for Urban Utilities and Spotless, and clients range from a small residential backyard through to statewide tree maintenance contracts.
