About This Business
Five hundred cubic metres of mulch come out of our chipper every week. The number sitting beside it on the same page is zero, and that one is health and safety incidents on site. Independent Tree Services has been trimming Brisbane's trees since 2002, with twenty five on-ground staff and two in the office. Australian owned, fully insured, fully certified, and very orange.
What started as managing director Trent Hughes with a truck, a set of tools and a cherry picker now works out of Narangba, north of Brisbane, and the contracts run a long way past the city limits. Moreton Bay, Logan, Redland, Somerset and Gympie councils are all on the books, along with Urban Utilities and Spotless. Clients range from a small residential backyard through to statewide tree maintenance contracts, and there is nothing across that range we would turn away.
Our crew hold arboriculture certification along with tree climbing, chainsaw, EWP, traffic control, fire ant, Blue Card and Pink Card tickets. The Pink Card is the one that decides a particular kind of job, because it is a Queensland Rail induction and without it nobody goes trackside. The team on site holds diplomas and Certificate 3 and 4 qualifications in arboriculture, we are members of the Queensland Arboriculture Association, we are accredited to OHS Australian Standards, and we bring the next generation through their training here. We also share the workplace with wildlife more often than you would expect, so we keep wildlife spotters on site who know their way around bird nest and habitat relocation, and every bit of timber that comes off a job goes through the chipper and gets reused as mulch somewhere else.
On the ground that means tree removal big and small, including trees obstructing powerlines, with pruning, trimming, crown lifting to raise the lower branches off the ground, deadwood removal and ongoing tree maintenance in between. Once a tree is down we follow it with stump grinding, and the rest goes through onsite chipping and mulching before we leave. For steep ground like river banks, power line easements, pipelines and railway corridors we bring in excavators and horizontal mulchers, and there is a forest and lantana mulcher for land clearing. Root barrier installation and tree planting go the other way.
We write tree reports and risk assessments as well, and there is cherry picker hire and mulch sales for anyone who would sooner tackle the job themselves. Storm damage and prevention work is worth booking ahead of the season rather than during it, but if a tree is already down across a driveway at midnight our emergency response runs 24 hours a day. The office is open Monday to Friday, 6.30am to 5pm, though you are more likely to find us up a tree.
