Five in the morning is when our day starts, Monday to Friday. JG Arbor has been working Cowra and the Central Tablelands since 2017, when Jason Gavenlock set it up after years on the New South Wales Central Coast, where he came up from labourer to foreman with several teams under him. Aaron and Luke are on the tools alongside him now, and the three things we hold to are efficiency, safety and service.

A tree that has gone diseased, turned dangerous, copped a hit in a storm, or simply no longer suits where it is standing: those are the tree removal jobs, and we take them on in confined spaces and on large mature trees where there is no room to get it wrong.

Before we cut, an aerial inspection puts us up into the upper canopy and the structural branches, looking for decay, cracks, pests and weak unions. That is where the trouble starts, and it is the part you cannot see standing on the lawn. From there the tree pruning gets matched to the species and the condition of that particular tree: formative work, crown thinning, canopy lifting, deadwood removal or hazard reduction.

Our stump grinding takes the stump below ground level and leaves the ground clean and level, ready for replanting or for building on, and the size of it does not much matter. Nothing off a job goes to waste either. Suitable timber gets processed into seasoned firewood, and the green waste runs through the chipper into wood chips that hold moisture in the soil once they are spread.

We also do habitat installation, fitting nesting boxes, hollow logs and habitat poles so birds, mammals and beneficial insects still have somewhere to live once the old hollows have come out. And through the year we handle garden maintenance: hedge trimming, plant health care, mulching, weed control, seasonal clean-ups and the general upkeep that keeps a garden from getting away from you.

Cowra is home and the wider Central Tablelands is our patch. Weekdays we run 5am to 5pm, and weekends are by appointment or for emergencies, when a storm has left something standing that should not be. Ring Jason, tell him what the tree has been doing, and we will come out and have a look at it.
