K2 Arboriculture

AQF Level 5 is the consulting end of arboriculture, and it is the qualification Kieran Johnston holds. He runs K2 Arboriculture across Perth, insured and working to the relevant Australian Standards, and he is the one you get on the phone when you ring. Where a tree needs documenting rather than cutting, we write arborist reports. For a homeowner or a property manager that means picking up decay, structural problems, pest damage or a risk to a building, fence or driveway, backed with photographs and recommendations you can act on, and it is the documentation councils commonly ask for before they will approve a removal or a prune. For builders and developers we prepare arboricultural impact assessments to AS 4970 (2025), with Notional Root Zone and Structural Root Zone calculations and tree protection measures set out to suit the planning conditions on the site.

Schools, public spaces and commercial sites come to us for QTRA risk assessments. Quantified Tree Risk Assessment puts a measurable, evidence based number on the risk a tree presents, which lets a duty holder prioritise the maintenance that matters and evidence how the decision was reached if anyone asks later. We work alongside builders, architects and councils on the development side, and the aim is always a result that keeps as many trees standing as the project allows.

The hands on side runs alongside the reports. Tree pruning is done to AS 4373, the standard for pruning amenity trees, so a cut goes where the tree can seal over it. Where a tree is past saving or simply in the wrong place, tree removal and stump grinding clear the site properly. A tree with a structural weakness that is still worth keeping can often be held with tree support systems, using cabling, bracing and propping to take the load off the weak point. Hedge trimming is on the list as well.

We cover Perth and the suburbs around it, north through Stirling, Duncraig and Joondalup, west out to Cottesloe, and south east as far as Armadale.
