Every year we give thousands of cubic metres of mulch away and bill nobody for it. Kennedys Tree Services has been family owned and run for twenty five years, working trees right across Perth. We do not see a tree as an isolated object. It is part of the urban forest: the trees around our homes and through our parks and gardens that filter water, sunlight and air, shelter native animals and give the rest of us somewhere to rest or play. A deciduous tree shades a building through summer and then drops its leaves so the sun can warm it again in the cooler months, which is electricity nobody has to spend. Councils here understand what that investment is worth, and hundreds of trees in Western Australia form part of the State Heritage database.

A tree rarely comes out just because it is in the way. Roots get into house footings and lift footpaths, something planted decades ago turns out far bigger than whoever planted it expected, a lightning strike leaves a trunk unstable, and a run of high winds or a hard summer takes the integrity out of the big limbs until they start dropping. So we send a senior estimator to your property to look at the tree, set out a plan of action and put a price on it, all at no cost to you. Where there is a stump in the job, he will work out what access the machinery has, what is sitting around the stump and where the underground services run before anything is quoted.

With tree pruning, trimming and deadwooding, the reason decides the cut: thinning a crown so air and new growth can get through it, bringing the height of a tree down, taking out the lower branches that obstruct, clearance around powerlines, or shaping where the look of the thing matters. Our arborists are trained for pruning near high and low voltage lines, and they hold chainsaw trim and fell certificates, elevated work platform certification and senior first aid.

Once a tree is down, our stump grinding machinery takes out what is left, and the grindings either stay on your garden beds or go on the truck with us, whichever you would rather. The mulch is worth keeping as well, because it holds the weeds down, slows the evaporation out of your soil and breaks down into organic matter that lifts the nutrient levels and the structure underneath. Every year thousands of cubic metres of it go out free to schools across the southern and eastern suburbs of Perth, to aged nursing homes and to church groups, whenever we have it to give.

All of our staff hold a White or Blue Card, has a police clearance and goes through our own in-house induction before setting foot on a job.
