About This Business
An 18 metre telescopic EWP truck changes what is possible on a suburban block. It puts a climber into the top of a canopy from a stable platform, and it gets the work done over a roof line without a boot going through your garden beds. KMS Tree Services runs that truck alongside an Avant loader with a log grab, which lifts heavy timber off the ground once the tree is down. Between them they set how fast a job moves and how much of your lawn survives it. We work out of Latrobe and across northern and western Tasmania.
Not every block gives you the room to put a tree on the ground in one piece. Where a tree is boxed in by buildings, fences and services, confined space dismantling is how it comes out: piece by piece from the top, every section rigged and lowered, so nothing reaches the ground that we have not put there on purpose. Tree felling and removal is the straightforward version of the same job, for the trees with a clear fall and somewhere soft to land. Which of the two you are looking at is usually obvious the moment we walk the site with you.
Every climb on our jobs is run by a certified climbing arborist. Mathew Stephenson owns and operates KMS Tree Services, and alongside the climbing ticket he has spent several years delivering workplace training in arboricultural units of competency as a qualified Trainer and Assessor, with a Cert II in ESI behind that. The only people who will work on your trees are KMS employees, all of them experienced in modern arboricultural techniques. We hold every licence our area calls for and carry full public liability and professional indemnity cover, and the company is family owned.
Plenty of trees never need to come out at all. We take the dead and broken timber out of a canopy with pruning and dead-wooding before it comes down of its own accord, and crown alterations bring a crown back that has outgrown the space it sits in. If you are worried about a suspect tree and cannot tell which way it should go, our hazard tree assessments put a thorough look over the site and hand you written recommendations on mitigating the risk or improving the tree's health, so the call you make is made on something solid.
The timber does not leave in a skip. Wood chipping is done on site as the tree comes down, and because we chip everything ourselves we can also run mulch deliveries, so a load for your garden beds comes straight off a job. Storms are a different kind of call again. Emergency storm damage is part of what we take on, and a limb across a driveway or a tree into a fence is worth ringing about the moment you see it. The phone is answered Monday to Friday from seven to five and Saturday by appointment, the quote costs you nothing, and we stay in touch with you until the job is finished.
