Before you exchange on a place with a big tree in the yard, it is worth knowing what you are buying. Our pre property-purchase reports cover species identification, tree health and landscape value, so the tree is a known quantity before you sign rather than a problem you inherit afterwards. Koala Arbor Consulting Arborists has been doing this work since 2016.

David Shrimpton founded the business and owns it. He is an AQF Level 5 arborist, with professional horticulture and tree-climbing certifications sitting behind the consulting work, and he is certified in all three of the internationally recognised tree risk methods: TRAQ, Advanced QTRA and VALID. We are members of Arboriculture Australia and an accredited member of the Institute of Australian Consulting Arborists, and we run the business on respect, transparency and accountability.

For a Development Application with trees on the site, an AQF Level 5 Arboricultural Impact Assessment will almost certainly be needed before the application can be submitted to council. Once consent is granted, specific works inside the zones around retained trees require a Level 5 arborist to be present, and we attend for those and issue the on-site certification and letters confirming the consent conditions have been met.

Health and condition reports are what local government authorities generally want before a tree in poor health is pruned, treated or removed. They take in pests and diseases, a diagnosis, and what we would recommend doing about it. Our hazard assessment reports use whichever of the three recognised methods suits the tree and the site. Tree root mapping estimates the immediate or future risk to property from a root system, which is what councils and engineers tend to want in front of them before a design is finalised.

Getting a new tree to establish and stay healthy takes a bit of planning, so we advise on native and exotic tree planting and care: what to plant, where to put it, and what it needs in the years after it goes in. We also design and install orchid walls.
