Old hollow trees are exactly where bees love to nest, which turns one straightforward removal into two jobs. Henry, one of our two directors, founded Backyard Honey, so when there is a hive in a tree we relocate the bees instead of destroying them. Tree bound beehive removal is not something you will find on many tree service price lists, and it is on ours because of who is running the crew.

Chris and Henry run Leafy Tree Care between them, with Zac as lead arborist on the climbing, pruning and removals and a crew of Cert III qualified arborists alongside him. Chris takes care of quotes, permits and scheduling; Henry runs operations and job planning. We carry $20 million in public liability cover across residential and commercial work. Boroondara is home, which means Hawthorn, Kew, Camberwell, Canterbury, Balwyn, Surrey Hills, Glen Iris and Ashburton, and we work through the Stonnington, Manningham, Yarra, Glen Eira, Monash and Whitehorse council areas as well.

Heritage tree care is a specialty here: conservative pruning, cabling and bracing on protected and significant trees, done inside what the council will actually allow. Knowing the local rules matters as much as the cut itself on those trees, because the wrong pruning is a permit problem on top of being a problem for the tree. We also handle tree planting and permits, from working out what suits the spot through to the paperwork that comes with a removal or a new planting.

Everything else follows from that. Tree removal takes in the hazardous and the dead along with the trees that have outgrown a suburban block, brought down safely in tight spaces, and emergency tree removal deals with storm damaged and fallen trees promptly. On bigger jobs, land and site clearing opens a block up ahead of building, landscaping or fire preparation. For the trees staying put, tree pruning and trimming and hedge trimming keep canopies and screens in order, and once the cutting is done, stump grinding gets the stumps out below ground while green waste and wood chipping turns the branches into chip instead of landfill. We write arborist reports for councils, permits and disputes too.
