About This Business
Whether a tree comes out at all is usually decided by what a certified arborist puts in writing, and that is where Len McKeown Tree Services begins. Our arborist reports set out the damage and the area of concern, any disease or pest threat, the chance of injury and the overall health of the tree, then say what should happen next: pest control, treatment of root problems, pruning, or removal once there is genuinely no other option. Len has been doing this for more than 25 years across Melbourne East and Bayside, and it is still a family business. Len started it, and his wife Glenda runs the operations side alongside our qualified arborists.
What that report is actually for matters more than the paperwork. The City Forester wants one before a protected tree comes down, so what we write is what your application gets judged on. Where a site carries a lot of mature trees, and schools, golf courses and commercial properties usually do, we prepare a management plan covering the whole property. For one tree we assess it on species, health and structure and leave it at that. Tell us how many trees you have, the size of the block and why the work is needed, and we will come out and give you the assessment and the price together. We handle the tree removal permits too, which is the part most people would rather hand over.
On the tools, tree removal covers the ones that have died, split or simply outgrown the block, including jobs with no clear drop where every piece has to be rigged down over a fence, a pool or a roof. Tree pruning and tree lopping pull back the canopies crowding a house or creeping toward the power lines, palm tree trimming takes off fronds and seed heads before they let go, and stump grinding and stump removal tidy up the ground afterwards. Customers have had us out at Balwyn, Mount Waverley, Doncaster East, Ivanhoe, Ringwood and Bentleigh.
Our gear decides how much we can do in a day. Stihl saws run from the first cut to the last, and a Vermeer BC1500 chipper on a 125 horsepower John Deere diesel swallows material up to 15 inches across, so the tree leaves with us and the site is clear. None of that chip is wasted either, because we sell and deliver woodchip and mulch from it.
After a storm we run emergency tree services for limbs down on power lines and trees through fences and roofs, and we write up insurance work and claims quotations quickly so your claim is moving while the clean up is still under way. For a tree that is struggling there is tree health care and advice, and elm leaf beetle control is a separate treatment we can book in. We carry full public liability cover and work for householders, businesses, schools and local government alike. Quotes are free and honest, and someone comes out and views the property before we price anything. Ring us on 03 9736 2159 or send through the details and we will arrange a time to come and look at it.
