Twenty three metres of reach, and it still fits through a standard gate. That is our elevated work platform, and it is how Mackay Arbor and Landscaping gets to the top of a tree hanging over your house without pulling the fence apart to do it. Where the machine cannot get in at all, our climbers are fully kitted and ready to ascend. We work Mackay, the Coalfields and the Whitsundays out of a base in South Mackay.

Big trees want big gear. Our chipper swallows a high diameter limb, runs a winch and empties into a 13 cubic metre chip bin, which means the crew stays on site working instead of shuttling to the tip and back. The bigger truck keeps us on your property longer and gets the job finished quicker, and that turns up as a better price on the quote.

Tree felling and topping is where the gear earns its keep. A lean will fool you into thinking a tree is easy to drop, and a big one that goes slightly wrong gets expensive very quickly: picture a small drop zone, on a hill, with a concrete driveway sitting underneath it. That is the job you want somebody called in for. We are fully qualified and insured with $20 million of public liability cover, and we hold the relevant tickets and licences for every machine we run.

The ordinary work runs alongside all that. Tree removal and tree trimming deal with the tree that has engulfed the back yard, or cut a canopy back so the sun actually reaches your new solar panels, and correct pruning and crown reductions keep a tree safe and green right through the year. For what is left in the ground we run compact, lightweight stump grinding machines that fit through a standard doorway and cut to a depth of 400 millimetres, so there is no root left to reshoot. Our low ground pressure machinery leaves the lawn around it looking like nobody was ever there.

We live in the tropics with the Whitsundays out the back door, and the trade off is the storms. Cyclone and storm clean up runs on 24/7 emergency call outs, though we would much prefer to come out for a free assessment before the season starts and take the dangerous limbs off while there is time to do it calmly. When the ground itself is the problem, the excavator and the bobcat come out for excavation and landscaping: a boggy back yard, a renovation site, or the bare dirt left behind once the trees have gone and you want lawn across it.
