The yard is in Boulder, and Kalgoorlie-Boulder and the wider Goldfields region is where the work is. Trees are one part of what the one phone number gets you at Metro Underground, alongside scaffolding, fencing, roofing, carpentry, painting, plastering and tiling, welding, kitchen and bathroom renovations and general property maintenance. There is labour hire too, for when what a site needs is people on it instead of a finished job, and the recruitment, training, benefits and workplace safety side of that is handled from this office. Height is what decides whether a tree job is straightforward. Once a tree is over eleven metres it is past what a ladder and a chainsaw will safely reach, so those go to our certified arborists and come down from a rope in sections, with every piece controlled on its way to the ground. Size and condition do not rule a tree out. What we will not do is take the tree down and leave you with the aftermath, so the debris goes out with us and the patch of ground where it stood is clear and unobstructed before we drive off.

Ten years of pruning and tree removal on residential blocks around the Goldfields sits behind that. Where a tree comes out, our stump grinding takes the remainder with it, so there is nothing left to mow around or send up new growth next spring. If the crew and the truck are on your block already, a yard and garden cleanup is worth adding to the same visit, and the green waste, the prunings and whatever has been piling up along the back fence all go in the one load. Cut timber does not get wasted either. Firewood has gone out of this yard for more than ten years, and as a member of the Firewood Association of Australia we source it responsibly through suppliers we know and season it properly, which is why it burns with far less smoke and emissions than green wood. Hardwood or softwood depends on the burn time and the heat you are after, and it goes into open fireplaces, wood-fired cookers and pizza ovens.
