About This Business

When fire took hold at the Boranup caves system, our crew was the first on site to help get the trees out. That is the sort of call our 24 hour emergency work exists for. Nobody can predict when a tree turns into a hazard, so after a storm or a bushfire we come back to you promptly, assess the incident on the spot, make an action plan there and then, and arrive with all the relevant gear to deal with it.

Luke Hill came to arboriculture the long way round. After travelling through Europe in the early 2000s he was trained by his uncle, who owned a tree surgery in Oxford, then worked in the industry around Western Europe before returning to the South West in 2008. He was one of the first properly trained arborists in the area, and he could see a gap for tree work that put the local trees and ecosystems first. He started out with a rusty Land Cruiser, a couple of chainsaws and his dog Wilson, and the business grew on word of mouth and repeat customers alone.

There are eight arborists on the team now, qualified or apprenticing through TAFE. A dead tree does not always have to come out: we can shrink it, coronet prune it so it mimics what an old stand does on its own, and carve habitat hollows into it for the local wildlife. Where that is not on, we build nesting hollows out of material reclaimed off our own jobs, carved in so they never look bolted on. If a job turns up an animal in trouble, we get it out too.

Our tree removals take in the jobs with no room to work in, and dangerous and confined removals are a category of their own, where a tree has to come down in pieces because there is nowhere on the block to drop it. Our tree pruning keeps a tree structurally sound and clear of your roof and the power lines, and hedge trimming keeps a boundary in order. Once a tree is out, stump grinding takes the stump below ground level so the space is usable again, and what comes off the job goes through the chipper for mulching back onto your garden.

Fuel loads count for a lot down here, so our fire hazard prevention work clears and prunes around a house before the season turns. At the other end of it we do tree planting and transplanting, shifting a specimen that is in the wrong place instead of writing it off. The ethos is minimising our footprint and maximising the output, and the team gives its time to FAWNA, Yallingup Coastal, and the Dunsborough and Margaret River community gardens.

We are licensed and fully insured with $50,000,000 of cover, backed by extensive safety management systems and ongoing training. Working out of Dunsborough, we cover Vasse, Busselton, Gracetown, Margaret River and Pemberton. Tell us what your trees need, through the booking form or over the phone, and one of our qualified arbs will come back to you with a custom quote and no obligation on you at all.
