About This Business

A dead tree does not always have to come out. It can be shrunk, coronet pruned to mimic what an old stand does on its own, and carved with habitat hollows for black cockatoos and possums. Naturaliste Tree Care also builds nesting hollows from material salvaged off our own jobs, carved so they sit in the tree without looking bolted on, and puts up black cockatoo tubes. That work has been done alongside the Dunsborough Men's Shed, the Dunsborough Land Care Group and Margaret River Nature Conservation.

Luke Hill came to arboriculture the long way around. After travelling through Europe in the early 2000s he was trained by his uncle, who ran a tree surgery in Oxford, then worked in tree surgery across Western Europe before landing back in the South West in 2008 as one of the first formally trained arborists in the region. He started out with a rusty Land Cruiser and a couple of chainsaws, and the business grew on word of mouth and repeat customers. There are eight arborists on the team now, either qualified or apprenticing through TAFE.

Tree removals take in the jobs with no room to work, and dangerous and confined removals are their own category: a tree that has to come down in pieces because there is nowhere to drop it. Keeping a tree structurally sound and clear of your roof and the power lines is what tree pruning is for, and hedge trimming keeps a boundary in order. Once a tree is out, stump grinding takes the stump below ground level so the space is usable again, and what comes off the job goes through the chipper for mulching back onto your garden.

Fire hazard prevention counts for a lot down here, so we clear and prune to bring the fuel load around a house down before the season turns. Tree planting and transplanting is the other end of the work, shifting a specimen that is in the wrong place rather than writing it off. Our ethos is minimising the footprint and maximising the output, and the team gives time to FAWNA, Yallingup Coastal, and the Dunsborough and Margaret River community gardens.

You cannot pick when a tree is going to become a hazard, which is why our 24 hour emergency work runs around the clock. After a storm or a bushfire we will get to your query quickly, assess it on the spot, make an action plan and turn up with the gear to deal with it. Our crew was first on site during the fire at the Boranup caves, clearing trees around the sinkhole, observation deck and car park before tourists were let back in. We are licensed and fully insured with fifty million dollars of public liability cover, backed by safety management systems and ongoing training. Working out of Dunsborough, we cover Vasse, Busselton, Yallingup, Gracetown, Margaret River and Pemberton. Ring 0406 585 510 and we will come and look at the tree.
