Ocean Road Tree Services is a Torquay based tree company that specialises in the particular challenges of coastal tree work along the Surf Coast. It is led by founder and lead arborist Campbell Park, who has more than 12 years on the coast and is working towards his AQF Level 5 diploma, alongside consulting arborist Laura O'Connor, who holds an AQF Level 8 qualification, one of the highest in arboriculture. The bread and butter is tree removal and tree pruning, with all pruning carried out to Australian Standard AS 4373-2007. Coastal trees cop salt wind, sandy soils and tight beach-town blocks, so removing or reshaping them safely takes a bit more care than a standard suburban job. Hedge trimming is part of the same maintenance work, keeping coastal hedges and screens neat and holding their shape.

Once a tree is down, stump removal and grinding clears the stump out of the ground, and the green waste is dealt with on site through chipping and mulching rather than being carted off. For larger jobs they take on site and block vegetation clearance and forestry mulching, along with yucca and palm removal, which are their own kind of awkward to get out.

Because the team includes a consulting arborist, Ocean Road also produces arborist reports, covering pre-purchase tree inspections, tree health and safety risk assessments, and development and planning reports prepared to AS 4970-2009 for councils and builders. They also do native bird habitat creation, keeping and modifying trees to give local birdlife somewhere to nest rather than simply clearing everything.
